Health and Safety

AT The Little Peter After School

Your Child’s Well-Being is Our Priority

At The Little Peter Childcare, we take the health and safety of your child seriously. From the moment your child steps through our doors, we’re committed to ensuring a safe, clean, and nurturing environment. This includes adhering to strict health protocols, providing nutritious snacks, and creating a secure space where children can learn, grow, and play.

Health and Hygiene
Practices

We follow strict health and hygiene protocols to ensure the safety of all children, staff, and families. Here are some of the steps we take:

Handwashing: Children wash their hands regularly throughout the day, especially before meals, after using the bathroom, and after outdoor play. We encourage proper handwashing techniques to minimize the spread of germs.

Sanitizing: All high-touch areas, toys, and learning materials are sanitized frequently to maintain a clean and safe environment. Our classrooms and common areas are regularly disinfected.

Health Checks: Staff members carry out daily health checks to monitor for signs of illness. If your child feels unwell or exhibits symptoms of sickness (such as a fever or cough), we kindly ask that you keep them at home to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

Emergency Procedures: We have clear procedures in place for any emergency situations. All staff are trained in first aid and CPR, and we conduct regular drills to ensure we’re ready in case of an emergency.

Food and Snacks

We understand that healthy eating is essential for your child’s growth and development. Here’s how we manage food and snacks at The Little Peter After School:

Nutritious Snacks: We provide a variety of nutritious snacks that are designed to fuel your child throughout the afternoon. These snacks typically include fresh fruits, whole grain crackers, yogurt, and other healthy options. If your child has dietary restrictions or allergies, please let us know so we can accommodate them accordingly.

Allergy Awareness: We take allergies very seriously. If your child has a food allergy or sensitivity, we ask that you inform us immediately. We ensure that we are aware of any allergies and follow procedures to avoid cross-contamination. Additionally, we ask parents to avoid sending in snacks that contain nuts or other allergens, depending on the needs of our current students.

Healthy Meal Options: If you prefer to send your child with their own snack, we encourage you to provide something nutritious, such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, or whole-grain options. Sugary snacks or heavily processed foods are discouraged.

Water Availability: We believe in staying hydrated, so fresh water is always available throughout the day. We encourage children to drink water regularly to stay hydrated, especially during physical activities.

Safety Guidelines

The physical and emotional safety of each child is our top priority. We have comprehensive safety guidelines to ensure that children are always in a secure and supervised environment:

Supervision: Children are always supervised by trained staff, whether indoors, in the playground, or on field trips. We maintain an appropriate adult-to-child ratio to ensure that every child receives the attention and care they deserve.

Playground Safety: Our outdoor play areas are checked regularly for safety hazards, and we ensure that the equipment is safe and age-appropriate. We encourage safe play and supervise children to ensure their well-being during outdoor activities.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off: We maintain strict procedures for child pick-up and drop-off. Only authorized individuals, as listed by parents or guardians, are allowed to pick up children. If there are any changes to your designated pick-up person, please notify us in advance.

Emergency Contacts: It is essential that we have up-to-date emergency contact information for each child. Please inform us immediately if there are any changes to phone numbers, addresses, or emergency contacts.

Illness and Medication Policy

Illness: If your child is feeling unwell or showing symptoms of illness (such as fever, vomiting, or cough), we kindly ask that you keep them at home. This helps prevent the spread of illness and ensures that your child can rest and recover fully.

Medication: If your child requires medication during their time at The Little Peter After School, please inform us in advance. We have a procedure for administering medication, and we will only give your child medication if we have written consent from you.

First Aid and Emergencies

In the event of an emergency, our staff is trained to respond appropriately:

First Aid Kits: We have fully stocked first aid kits on hand at all times, and staff are trained in basic first aid and CPR to ensure quick action if needed.

Accident Reports: In the unlikely event that your child is injured, we will immediately inform you and provide a detailed report of the incident. We follow all safety protocols and ensure that any injury, no matter how small, is taken seriously.
